Why I've Given Up Going On Holidays
It's expensive, predictable and oversold.
First , a disclaimer. I have a house by the seaside on the Kent coast, so my situation as regards getting ‘away from it all’ is somewhat more favourable than most peoples. And I’m retired, so in a way my whole life is a holiday.
But having said that, sitting in my flat in an empty London - everyone I know has gone away - I feel no envy for those urban holidaymakers whatsoever. Most have gone to France or Italy or Greece or Spain, with their unbearable heat. They are doubtless sipping cocktails and sitting by azure seas, but how many cocktails can you drink and how many azure seas can you dive into before getting tired of it all. So you go on your tablet or phone , which you can do equally well in Wimbledon or Wembley.
