New Year's Resolution To Write A Novel or Memoir?
Let me help you - with a big reduction in January on my great value mentoring services - for my Substack subscribers only.
Happy That-Bit- In-Between-Christmas-And-New- Year!
If you’re anything like me, you may be considering what to choose as your New Year’s Resolution.
From my experience of teaching this time last year, an awful lot of people decide that the time has come to write that novel or memoir that they believe is hiding inside them. When I taught an online group Guardian Masterclass on starting a novel in January 2023, , hundreds of people signed up.
It was a great teaching session with terrific feedback and many good novel ideas from the participants.
But I wonder how many went on to finish the novel they had promised themselves?
Because most people’s New Year’s Resolutions have faded and died by the end of January.
With my help, you can keep going and push through to the end.
I have been personally mentoring writers one-to-one for 15 years, and the feedback has been universally positive. For more details go to:
And here’s an interview published in the Guardain about my mentoring:
Here’s what the writer Anna Pasternak had made for me after her first few sessions:
Anna is a highly competent and well established writer, but I work at all levels of accomplishment ( although I will ask to see a submission before I agree to mentor anyo
Up to and including Jan 7 2024, I am offering ten per cent off my mentoring services for Substack subscribers ( I’ll check your email on my subscriber database for verification)
On a full mentoring package (my most expensive option) this amounts to a reduction of £275.
If the remaining fee of £2,475 still sounds like a lot of money, think how much it will cost you for even a group experience elsewhere - where you won’t get nearly as much personal attention, and possibly a tutor of less than towering achievement. And almost certainly one that hasn’t written a book on the craft of writing.
A six month group teaching session at the Faber Academy costs £4,250
Corporate-led mentoring is similarly expensive. For example, a nine-month mentoring course with the Faber Academy will cost you £3,250 for seven hourly sessions with 15,000 words of submission.
With me you get a year’s attention, ten hourly sessions and up to 75,000 words of submission. With this New Year’s reduction your fee for my personal mentoring will come out at £2,475. Go figure out the best deal for yourself.
Other courses and other mentoring programmes are similarly expensive. A six-month group course with Curtis Brown costs £3,190 With me you get the highest possible quality of teaching at the minimum cost and face-to-face feedback for many hundreds of pounds less. Individual mentoring at the Gold Dust agency costs £4,350 - for 16 hours ( my packages are effectively 20 hours, ten hours of reading and ten of of teaching).
I don’t have a brand name like Faber, or Curtis Brown, but I come with the imprimatur of Guardian Masterclasses, for whom I have worked as sole mentor for ten years.
I can offer this value because I am not part of any company or corporation, so I don’t have the overheads and skim-offs added on by the companies that run these courses. I have a personal writing studio in North Kensington where you can meet for lessons (instead of expensive offices in central London) but I can happily work online too.
Apart from the practical help you will get a motivational boost - you’d be surprised what an injection of willpower you get from paying out an upfront fee. Once you’ve purchased a programme, it’s a great impetus to keep writing. This time next year you could have easily completed a good first draft of your novel, and you will be helped every step of the way by yours truly.
So let your New Year’s resolution be one that is achievable with my help.
