My First Pages - 'Now We Are Forgiven'
Every week I post the first page of one of my books, in order of publication. Why? It gives me pleasure.
‘Now We Are Forgiven’ , published 2022, is my tenth and last novel, and the third in the trilogy that began with ‘White City Blue’.
When I started writing about Frankie Blue, I was consciously trying to ape the Everyman, Rabbit Angstrom, in the Updike tetralogy. Frankie is an estate agent, Rabbit is a car salesman. I wanted to reproduce the progress of my character across the decades. This book ends just after Covid, which in this episode, Frankie catches then just about recovers from, nursed by his almost-estranged daughter, China Blue. There is an almost-happy ending, but Frankie as usual , finds himself lost and looking for a way forward. Will there be a fourth episode? I’d like to think so, but I wouldn’t hold your breath.
Enjoyed this, thank you
