Juke Books 2 - Celebrating Two Years of Boot Camp: Final Reminder for Tonight's Zoomcast. Free For All.
Another chance to introduce other readers to your favourite books. And a special offer if you wish to become a paid subscriber.
We increasingly live in a subscription driven world, of which I am necessarily part. And I have a LOT of competition - from other Substackers, from newspapers, streaming channels and god knows who else.
This week marks two years since the founding of Boot Camp. I have yet to earn five figures annually from my work. And this normally paid-for post is available for anyone.
But after today, I am putting up my subscription charges to reflect inflation - they are currently £5 weekly subscription and £50 yearly subscription, and will rise to £7 and £60. My apologies but everything I try and buy nowadays is so expensive!.
NOTE: if you take out a paid subscription today, your subscription will remain at the old rate. And for TODAY ONLY, an annual subscription will be just £40.
Please take advantage of this offer and help support Boot Camp. And remember if you are truly struggling financially, I will be happy to give you a paid subscription for free. Just post your email at the end of this thread.
Thank you. I value you all.
There was a lot of interest in the first Juke Books Zoomcast on 19th March. Everyone who turned up seemed to thorougly enjoy it, so I am going to continue doing a regular Zoomcast. After next week, this will take place on the first Tuesday of every month, so long as engagement remains at the current level. Juke Books 2 will take place next Tuesday April 9 at 18.30 BST, and is open to all subscribers.
The format of Juke Books is simple. Anyone who turns up to the Zoom meeting has the chance to read out loud - for three minutes maximum - from a book they love. It can be from a novel, a memoir, a short story or a poem.
( I am quite strict on the three minutes otherwise not everybody gets a chance to read).
Before doing so, they will take less than a minute to explain why they love this book and why they have chosen it.
Afterward the reading, other participants will have a chance to feed back. What they liked, or didn’t like about the extract.
And then we move on to the next reader. And so on, until an hour is up.
Readers are chosen at random, but usually everyone gets a chance to read, if they wish to do so.
It’s a great way of learning about new authors and great books, and it is also very sociable and fun.
So: If you are interested in participating - either as a reader or a non-reading participant - please add your name to the comments list below.
Hopefully see you all on Zoom soon. Here’s the sign in link:

I was five minutes delayed getting into Juke Books 2 but thankfully not thwarted by circumstances and thoroughly enjoyed another very worthwhile hour. Thanks all,
Question for Tim: is it into this thread or another that you'd like those who had the opportunity to read to post details of their selected texts?
Thanks, was fun!
