Ten Shun!
We have two submissions to consider this week ( Lo temporarily withdrew hers) - A.L Green’s ‘By Her Lonesome’ and Stephen McDowell’s ‘It All Sticks’ ( see last Tbursday’s post for links).
Both were quite well-liked. Lo was ‘blown away’ by AL’s use of language, while Anna Rose Phipps enjoyed the bitching between Cate, the protagonist, and her visitor Marie, judging it a ‘good read’. Sarah Gellner thought ‘It All Sticks’ was a ‘fun read’, while Matt judged it ‘uncomfortable and funny’.
However there were plenty of negatives pointed up, many of which I agreed with. ‘Too many adjectives’ said Sarah of ‘By Her Lonesome.’ Anna Rose Phippa said she was put off, at least initially, by linguistic and theatrical cliches’’. Lo thought it ‘ a little contrived’. As for ‘It All Sticks’, Josa Keyes found the ending a failure, as did Sarah Gellner and Anna Rose Phipps and Matt Bartle.
