I was going to post the second part of my unfinished novel, ‘Afterwards Before We Met’, having published the first chapter last Wednesday.
I had cut and pasted it from the original document and sat down to read it, having not got that far into the text for some years.
I realised quite quickly that it wasn’t very good. The writing was sloppy, derivative and dated.
Turns out my publisher was right to turn it down.
Thus I have decided to abandon the project of publishing on Substack the first 20,000 words.
I would apologise - but you really aren’t missing anything. And your doing both yourself and me a favour by not reading it.
Now I’m going to get back to working on a play.
Which also, at the moment, isn’t very good.
But if it somehow gets better, I will post it here for feedback.
Thank you for your patience.
Tim
Well it is Saturday and I did say that I'd come back to see if what I'd posted had drawn and captured any responses.
Clearly my words haven't, which is no matter but is indicative of what Substack - for all its plus points - seems, mostly, to fail to happen in comments thread. which is to take the first spark of a potential conversation, nurture it a bit with added comment and, perhaps, set a discussion aflame.
BTW it is a full week on past the Saturday I suggested I might call back. Actually, rather like a lobster post fisherman, I have dropped in here several times over the past seven days. Not so much as a skinless sausage neve mind a lively lobster has been tempted . . .
Not a criticism Boot Campers, merely a passing reflection on an aspect of the digital milieu borne of q experience of participating across a number of ever evolving and morphing Substacks.
Time to pull my pots in for the fun and frolics that will be sure to blow in with the Festive Season.
It's been a fascinating year here in Boot Camp . . . thanks Tim, thanks All 🎄
RT1 (aka Reflective Thread #1):
Anyone care to share thoughts on why 'Time' is a first thread that, I think, it might be worth conversing a little more about, online, here?
Having thrown out this first, metaphorical, lobster pot . . . I come back to see if it's drawn and captured any responses sometime on Saturday.
